Day 187

So today starts the beginning of a busy three weeks. Can't complain because it's always better to be busy than not busy, especially in these economic conditions. And I just need to stay focused for the next three weeks and then I'm home for the holidays. Nine days of chocolate chip cookies, Riley & Harley, family & friends, and maybe some skiing.

Yesterday I went on an audition for an NYU student film. A friend I model with is a student at the film school at NYU so whenever he can he passes my name onto people who are looking for talent. The short film is entitled "Eros & Psyche" which in modern day translates to "Beauty and the Beast." I auditioned for Eros. And I got the role.

It's a two day shoot, the first of which was shot this morning. It doesn't require much "acting" out of me because my face isn't shown until the very end. But it's great experience to be on a set and learn how everything you do affects the shot. Also, it's something I can put on my resume and I'll get a DVD of it. Right now I'm not looking for an Emmy, just experience.

When I got home I got a phone call from my booker. All he said was, "I had to call you because I want you to know that I just got the pictures back from Joseph Bleu and they are AMAZING! Everything I wanted and needed." That makes my day. And he said he couldn't tell that I was on about 4 hours of sleep. Thank you Red Bull for giving me wings.

Later tonight myself and a few other models from Adam are shooting a 10-12 page editorial for Vice Magazine. It's from 4:30-midnight. A combination of single and group shots. This could be a long night. I have a feeling there could be some sitting around. Magazines and crossword puzzles are a must. Hopefully the pictures will turn out great.

Time to eat lunch. Go to the gym. Head to the shoot.

Who let the dogs out?

Day 186

Sunday. A day to rest and relax before that dreaded Monday comes. A day to visit the holy house and give praise to the big man upstairs. Watch football. Do laundry. Go grocery shopping. And for me? Work the opening Sunday at Forty Eight.

Not very excited about this whole working on Sunday thing. See last Sunday's post. I believe someone once said "And on Sunday we shall rest" or something like that. But I can't really complain. It pays well. It's easy. Sort of like my ex-girlfriend.

Going to Subway to get a $5... $5 footlong. Watching a little more football. Forty Eight.

Pigs go oink.

Day 185

Flew back into NYC this morning. Haven't really done a thing since. Ate some lunch and watched college football. Not a bad Saturday. Have to take advantage of the down time now because the next three weeks before I go home for Christmas are going to be hectic.

As for last night I went out with a couple of my best friends from home. It's all jokes when we're together. I don't think we've ever had a serious moment together. And if we did, it ended with someone getting punched in the groin afterwards.

Here's a few of the highlights we've shared together:
  • Cabin campout in the middle of winter. Three out of the four of us had blankets and jackets. Ya know, dressed appropriately according to the weather. Unfortunately for JC he didn't. To make matters worse he started throwing up in the middle of the night. I told him to push the door open so to not make a mess inside. It was too late before we realized you had to pull the door open. My bad. I got stuck cleaning it up.
  • Hotel room in Canada. Our neighbor to the north was a second home to us growing up. Go up in the evening, pregrame at our hotel room, then head out for the night. Well someone punched a hole in the wall. NBD but the room was on my credit card. Needless to say, words were exchanged and someone ended up going home. When asked at the border why he was in such a rush to get home, the person responded with "It's past my curfew. My mom is pissed."
  • Dunk Ball. Since none of us were any great athlete going D1 we thought we were really cool by lowering the basketball rim and dunking on each other. It gave us confidence. Granted the rim was about 8 feet. Our rules: No fouls. Rebound dunks and alley oops - 3 points. Regular dunks - 2 points. All other shots - 1 point. Game must end on a dunk. Things got violent. People got bloody. Celebrated with beers.
  • Launching waterballoons at golfers. This could be one of the funniest things ever. We would go to a near by public golf course with a cooler full of waterballoons and a waterballoon launcher. We'd sit behind a wooden fence and shoot balloons at golfers on the nearby green. They had no idea where they were coming from. Their reactions were priceless. Once they realized we weren't little kids they'd up the ante and fire golfballs back at us. One guy asked if I've ever made love to a 9-iron. Can't say I have sir.

Other memories I really don't feel like elaborating on:

  • Before going to Canada my dad was reading us the "riot act" and warning us about going through customs. JC responded with "Don't worry about it Mr. H. I got EZpass."
  • Clam baking JC's mini van with cigars going out to Sunset Beach.
  • Mountain biking in mid January.
  • Stealing signs for the Cabin. And yes I continue to capitalize "Cabin." In my mind, not only is it a proper noun, it's a sacred place of memories, empty beer cans, and probably early traces of the H1N1 virus.
  • Every single dance at Iroquois High School. Except prom.

Time to make dinner. Relax for a little bit. Then hopefully make some money at Forty Eight.

Paul Pierce's dunk on Chris Bosh was awesome.

Day 184

Doing nothing feels amazing!

Things accomplished today:
  • Frosted cookies with whipped cream.
  • Sleep past 11a.m.
  • College basketball.
  • No laundry. Thanks Mom.
  • Chocolate milkshake.
  • Play with my niece and puppies.

Life is real good.

Back to work tomorrow morning. May go out for a bit to see some friends. May sit on my couch and not move until tomorrow.

Day 183

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!!

It's good to be home. But I have a worse headache from being up for 24 hours then I would if I drank a handle of Jack. Okay, not really but you get my point.

I left work around 2a.m. Instead of going back to my place to sleep for two hours and risking not waking up, thus missing my flight, I went straight to Penn Station and hung out until the train to the airport left at 5:15a.m. Woke up 8:30a.m. Wednesday. Finally napped at 8:30a.m. Friday.

I didn't sleep for a single minute while I was there for two reasons - 1) Fear of waking up and having some homeless person spooning with me and 2) the comedic value the "Strong Island" party goers provided. Alcohol*(hair gel + fake tans)^I'm Awesome Attitude = Complete laughter.

I've never seen so many oversized button down shirts, halfway buttoned so to show off the wife beater, chest hair, and fake jewelry. For a visual look here. Heinekens and Jager bombs anyone? And remember... Don't sleep with "those guys." This isn't a fad. It's a disease.

My apologies for the numerous hyperlinks. Got a little carried away. But now it's time to go get ready for today's festivities. Heading to my grandparents house for dinner. And going to relax all night. Gauranteed I'm sleeping by 7p.m.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!!!

Day 182

Half way through a Year in the Life of a Starving Artist. Almost. Do the math. But if we wanna get technical it's pass noon soI am halfway through a year of my blog. Tomatos tomatoes.

Anyways, as for today I had a last minute casting for a sci-fi book cover. From what the photographer told me it's sort of like a Twilight type of book. Coming soon: Team John! Teenage girls eat your heart out. Take that Robert Pattinson and the other guy whose name I don't know.

That casting was on 42nd between 10th & 11th Ave. I live about 20 blocks north of that. Easiest way to get there is to walk. Halfway there I realized I forgot my keys. My one roommate was at a photoshoot. The other at rehearsal. Awesome! Second time this week I've done this.

And to end my night I'm working all day/night at Forty Eight. Half priced appetizers from 3-7 and half priced Ciroc vodka drinks from 7-midnight. Hopefully it's a long night because I plan on going straight from work to Penn Station to grab the 5:07a.m. train to Newark. Life is good.

Everyone have a safe and fun holiday. Probably won't post until much later tomorrow night due to the lack of sleep I'll be getting. But in the meantime I wish everyone a happy Thanksgiving. I can't wait to get home and see family and friends. And eat a shitload of turkey and stuffing!

The weak never finish. Cowards never start.

Day 181

Nothing really to talk about today. Going home Thursday morning so I started to pack and get things organized. I have to work tonight and tomorrow night. My flight leaves at 6:30 Thursday morning out of Newark. That means I have to catch the 5:15a.m. train out of Penn Station. Gonna be a long night/morning if tomorrow night is busy.

I found out today that myself, my roommate, and a couple other models booked a 10-12 page editorial for Vice Magazine. It shoots all Monday evening and night. I'm looking forward to it because A) I can get some tear sheets for my book and B) it adds a new dimension to my book with other models. As always pictures will be up once I get them.

Top ideas to write about in upcoming blog posts:
  1. The Type of Characters That Come to Forty Eight - very similar to my post about the people I see at the gym but instead of the gym it's Forty Eight. Duh.
  2. Top Things I Do/Don't Want to Experience in NYC - getting stabbed on the subway is definitely on the "Don't" list.
  3. Things I've Yet to Do Since Living In NYC
  4. My Pet Peeves About Working at Forty Eight - Customer: Umm.. Excuse me? I spilled my drink. I need a new one. Me: Oh really? Well maybe if you weren't crawling all over your man, trying to give him a handy, and hit your vodka cran with your 5-inch heals, you'd still have you're drink.
  5. Best Experiences So Far
  6. Worst Experiences So Far
  7. Things I Do To Keep Myself Busy While Walking Around The City - Tourist: Which way is the Empire State Building? Me: Two blocks make a left.
  8. If I Never Moved What Would My Life Be Like? - This could be interesting. I say an early version of Artie Lange.

That's it for now. Feel free to leave any suggestions or opinions. When I have more time I'll write about a couple of them. But now it's time to go to work. I finally sent my pants to the dry cleaners for only the third time since I've started working. Unfortunately one of the bartenders got me beat. He's yet to wash them.

Day 180

C.R.E.A.M.

I had one casting today for an eyewear magazine. This wasn't the first time I've been there. Hopefully it won't be my last. I look at it this way: If I don't book the job but the client continues to request me for other projects then I must have done something right. Or someone has a huge crush on me. Either one works for me. But hopefully things will work out this time. And if not, maybe next time.

Later in the afternoon I had to work at Forty Eight. I was only there to work a party so it was a very early night for me. Home by 9p.m. Already went to the gym. I'm really not sure what to do with my time. Probably gonna cook some dinner. Put my feet up on the coffee table. And watch Monday Night Football. Pretty lame post I know. But I gotta couple ideas in the works that will make up for it.

Cash. Rules. Everything. Around. Me.

Day 179

And on Sunday God said "Ye who works must rest" or something like that. So today I rest and relax. But I did go to the gym. Call me a meathead but I say it's being proactive. Since I won't be able to workout on Thursday and I won't feel like working out on Saturday after I fly back into town that really only leaves me with today. Have to stay focused.

Without further ado here are some of the pictures from the shoot with Michael Rowe.

Note to self: Don't argue about seats with someone on the subway. I ride this subway line every day. The incident occured one stop away from where I get on. One stop away from where I get off for work. I could've been on that train if I hadn't taken a cab home last night. All my experiences on the subway at 2.a.m. were vacant. This guy must be a greedy bastard. Did he want the entire train to himself?
Time to go back to resting. Don't wanna upset the big guy up above.

Day 178

S-A-T-U-R-D-A-Y Aye!

I went to a Kosher deli this afternoon and ate the biggest turkey sandwich I've ever had in my life. At least 2 pounds of meat. Delicious.

Going out later tonight with some friends and family. Talk to you tomorrow.

"Don't worry about the mule. Just take care of the wagon."

Day 177

For the past 3 weeks I've basically been sleeping on the futon in my room. Reason being is that I have a lofted bed and hot air rises. And during the middle of the night it's like a sauna up there. I open the windows but it's no use. I turn a fan on but it just ends up blowing the hot air at me. So I sleep on my futon where it's much more comfortable. Reason for this story? I now have a huge kink in my neck from sleeping the wrong way. Great.

As for today, I had a last minute casting for a Bloomingdales promotional job where I would be playing "Sexy Santa" and help give away gifts. The casting was at 11a.m. Across town between Lexington and 3rd Ave. I live between West End and Amsterdam. Quite a pain to get to. If you don't know, Mapquest it. Anyways, I got the info at 10:25a.m. Woke up at 10:24a.m. Went to be at 4a.m. No easier way to wake up then when you're running late to a casting.

On a side note I got a couple pictures back from the shoot I did with Michael Rowe. I'll put them up tomorrow or Sunday. But if you're anxious and can't wait go to http://www.adam-nyc.com/ and look at my portfolio. Or here to see my agencies blog. Or go to http://www.michaelrowephotography.com/ and look underneath his recent work section. Let me know what you think. The Joseph Bleu pictures should be coming soon.

For the rest of the day I'm going to have lunch with my sister before I have to be Forty Eight at 3p.m. And after work I'm most likely heading to the gym. Because like I said, there is always someone working harder than you. Unless...

Running out of ideas to close my posts. Please help.

JH.

Day 176

I used to be in Brooklyn, now I'm down in Tribeca. Seriously, I am. Granted I didn't move and I'm actually at my brothers. But I'm pretty sure that's what Jay-Z meant. And I'm really not in Brooklyn. More like the Upper West Side.

As for today nothing modeling or acting related to talk about. My agent told me he got some of my pictures from the shoots I did this weekend. I haven't seen them so I can't really comment on them. But hopefully they're like this. And not that.

Exciting news is that my sister is in town for the weekend. So it's a big Huetter sibling reunion. Gaurantee we're fighting by dinner time. So this afternoon her and I walked around my neighborhood, the Columbus Circle area. Which brings me to the current time.

We're just gonna hang out at my brother's apartment for a while. May have a BL or two while I relax. Probably point the laser light at the ground and watch my brother's dog chase it. But I have to be to work at Forty Eight at 5p.m. so it's time to relax.

The grass may be greener on the other side. But it still needs to get cut.

Day 175

The only reason I got up today before noon was to do laundry. And the only reason for doing laundry was to have clean underwear for a go-see today. No lie.

Anyways, the go-see was for Theory showroom. Apparently someone new was hired that I had to go meet. I had to try on a suit, a slim fit type of cut. And in my personal opinion I felt and looked like a million bucks. Fit me perfectly. And on a side note, Theory may have the best looking staff I've seen. Compliments to the HR hiring process.

After that I went to Macy's with no intentions of buying anything and walked out with new charges to my credit card. The real reason for going was to try on different brands of clothes to know what ones fit me best in order to have my agency send me to them. All in all it was a success. FuBu - not me. Calvin Klein - I can see it. Ben Sherman - been there, done that.

Originally I wasn't scheduled to work at Forty Eight tonight. But being the co-worker that I am, I covered a girls shift for a few hours. What a sweetheart? I lucked out because there was a private party with passed appetizers. I hadn't eaten dinner yet and the was a lot of left overs. So being the civilian I am I gave it to the homeless. (Sorry. That's actually a lie. I ate it. Delicious).

And to end my night I made my return to the hardwood and played basketball with the team I used to play with. I'm not officially on their roster but this season when I play our record is 3-0. Needless to say we left with a victory. Shot pretty well by hitting five threes. When I was younger basketball used to be my escape. Like my "marijuana." It feels good to still "smoke up" every now and then.

On a completely different topic, I came across a "Good Luck" card dated August 25, 2008. That was the day I left for NYC to "pound the pavement." I walked from agency to agency, open calls to banging on doors for about 10 days. Obviously I find MSA the last day. But it's funny to think how much I've changed in such a short time. Not to mention how much I've learned about myself.

It was only 15 months ago that I was working corporate America. A lot can happen when you decide that it's all or nothing, it's now or never, and you follow your dreams. I can only imagine where I'll be in another 15 months. What's my back up plan? I don't have one. I can't move home. No job. No car. And my Dad will probably make me pay rent after the first month. So it's do or die.

Remember Tatu? Yea, I downloaded them today. So what?

JH.

Day 174

So far today all I have accomplished is sleeping. And it feels amazing.

That being said I have to get my ass in gear and get ready for the day. I have a casting for Levi's in the early afternoon followed by work at Forty Eight. Nothing really exciting to write about today.

Last night was fun. It was good to have a few drinks, relax, and shoot the shit with a long time friend. We did a lot of stupid things when we were younger. Like throwing a lawn mower and television off a bridge. Knocking down a hornets nest. Launching waterballoons on the golf course. Times were good.

Everyone have a great day. Time to make that money.

JH.

Day 173

My post is a little late for Monday. Luckily for me I know how to change the date and time so it doesn't look like I'm posting Tuesday morning.

Anyways, today was a pretty good day. On my way to the gym my booker called me to let me know that I have a casting for Top Man look book. It was from my agency in London. Agency in London?! Yep. Finally got placed with an agency in Europe. D1 Model Management. One of the top agencies in London. I'm pretty excited about the possibilities.

I didn't have much time after the casting until I had to be at the David Letterman show. A few questions everyone is probably wondering...

Who? Myself and friend Jay Babinski. Guests on the show? Viggo Mortensen, Paula Poundstone, and Lyle Lovett
What? Free tickets to the David Letterman show
Where? 53 & Broadway at the Ed Sullivan Theatre
When? Monday night
Why? Because I'm in NYC bitches
How? Applied for tickets on line. Got a call and answered a trivia question right. What color hair does the announcer have?

After the show my friend and I went to the Public House where is girlfriend is a bartender. I planned on staying for three drinks at the most. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA good one John. Have I ever turned down free drinks? Why start now? So I used last night as a celebration for getting through last week and being placed with an agency in London. Pretty good excuse I think.

That was my Monday. Time to change the date on this post so it looks like I posted on time. Make some breakfast. Go back to sleep. I'll be back in a little bit.

Day 172

How 'bout them Bills?!

Last night I got home from work around 2a.m. and had to be up at 7:30a.m. for a photoshoot. I shot with Joseph Bleu, an amazing photographer, who's almost too smart for his trade. You remember your calculus teacher in highschool who knew everything and by attempting to make things easier they just became more confusing? That's sort of like Joseph Bleu.

Shooting with him was a great experience. Unlike other photographers he doesn't just point his camera and click away as you move, leaving you with 700 pictures to go through. He's a perfectionist. Knows exactly how the light and angles will effect the pictre. So I would pose, he would tweak what he didn't like, snap the picture and onto the next shot. At most 40 pictures.

That was from about 9a.m. until around noon. When I got hom I went grocery shopping, bought lunch and planned on watching football all day. That lasted for about an hour until I fell a sleep mid conversation with my roommmate. Just woke up and plan on going back to sleep within and hour or so. But might wake up and head out for a drink with a few friends.

There's always someone working harder than you. Unless you're that person.

Day 171

All work, no play, make John sleepy boy. I feel this past week my blog has been sub par in regards to what I've been doing. That can be contributed to two reasons - 1) Lack of time and 2) Lack of sleep. So now that I have more then 15 minutes to write here's a recap of the past week.

Monday
Half of my day was spent meeting with the head agent from MSA/Adam. Since I haven't been going on many castings lately it was a chance for me to voice my concerns and opinions about what was going on. Hopefully now we're all on the same page, or at least on the same chapter for now, and we can get my career to where I want it to be.

The other half of my day was running around the city to meet with different headshot photographers. I first met with Edward Kim in Midtown. He was a douchebag. Then I traveled all the way to West 186 Street to meet Jordan Matter. And afterwards I headed back towards, according to my map, Koreatown, to meet with a third photographer, Barry Morgenstein.

A lot of annoying, yet necessary, things to do. If I'm gonna pay the amount of money that headshots cost, I want them to be right. And finally to end my Monday night I got my haircut at Astor Place from Ali Dabaja. I don't think that's really his last name but it's got a nice flow to it. All in all I was gone for about 10 hours throughout the day. Not complaining but it takes its toll.

Tuesday
Much less hectic then Monday but just as long. I went to bed around 1a.m. Monday night. Had to be up at 6a.m. in order to be to a promotional job for Eye-5. I believe I talked about this on Tuesday's post. But it was basically a Calvin Klein presentation and I had to pass around breakfast food. Pretty easy.

Afterwards, I had a quick go-see to meet photographer Joseph Bleu. I've met him a few months ago, but the first time I ever met him was last summer when I came to NYC for two weeks. I think I was at Basic for an open call and he was there. Tried suckering me into paying for a shoot with him. Good thing I didn't. Got a free test shoot with him tomorrow. Boo-yah!

To end my night I had to work at Forty Eight. Off the top of my head I can't think of anything exciting that's worth writing about. Didn't get stuck in an elevator. No women caught me checking them out. And I made decent money. So that's how I'm gonna end Tuesday's recap.

Wednesday
I didn't get home from Forty Eight until about 1a.m. and didn't fall a sleep until about 2:30ish. But I had to be up Wednesday morning at 5:30a.m. in order to make it to another promotional job for Eye-5. So if you do the math that's about 8 hours of sleep for two nights. Not complaining or bragging, just explaining why I've been dragging ass.

The event was in honor of Veteran's Day where women would kiss a post card using Maybelline lipstick. Cosmo will send them to the troops for New Year's so they'll be able to kiss in the new year. I usually think street promotional jobs are pointless but I think this one was a great cause. They fight for people's rights to be able to walk away when I ask for a "Kiss for the Troops."

So that event lasted until about 12:30p.m. I ran home real quick to grab lunch before I had another meeting with the head booker and owner of MSA/Adam at 2p.m. A lot got accomplished but I'm still now 100% satisfied. But who really is? After the meeting I had an interview at 4p.m. for www.WhatsWear.com, which should come out today or next Saturday.

But the best part of Wednesday was going to Madison Square Garden for the Atlanta Hawks vs. New York Knicks basketball game. How to describe the Knicks to someone who's never watched basketball? Remember the magnetic football game where you'd turn it on and the players would move in every direction with no purpose or goal? That's the Knicks. They need help. Lebron?!

Thursday
I finally got a decent sleep Wednesday night. By that I mean about 7 hours. If you know me I hate the morning and don't function right away with out a good night sleep. So by now I'm really slowing down. I had a meeting at 10a.m. with Paul Gregory, another head shot photographer. What I thought would be a 15 minute meeting, turned into about 2 hours of chit chat.

Since the meeting lasted a tad longer than expected I went directly to meet with Axis Models, an agency based out of New Jersey. I'm glad I did. See Saturday. They do most of their work outside of the metropolitan area so it won't interfere with many of their model's major agencies. More opportunity, more money. But mo money, mo problems. Thanks Puffy.

And I'm not even going to tell you where I went to end my night. I don't think anything too exciting happened at work. We hosted a birthday party for someone, and apparently the CEO of some hip-hop record label was there. If I knew who he was I was gonna give him my demo tape and lay down a couple hot 16's for him.

Friday
Again, I didn't get home from work until about 1a.m., didn't fall a sleep until about 2:30a.m., and had to be up at 8a.m. for a photoshoot in Brooklyn with photographer Michale Rowe. Lack of sleep makes John a crabby and irritable person. And other then the fact I waited outside for 45 minutes in the cold, wind, and rain while the photographer ran late, the shoot went well.

I got home around 4p.m. and just barely had enough time to write my blog, eat dinner, and take a shower before I had to head for another promotional job for Eye-5. This time it was for the launch of Jimmy Choo's new line at H&M. For the first hour I sat at the door and passed drinks. For the last 4 hours I acted busy. Key word: acted. It's my true calling.

Saturday
Now the present time. Today, I had a job for Axis Models in New Jersey for a cosmetic showcase at Nordstrom's. Call time was at 6a.m. So, originally my roommate and I were going to take the bus back to his home in NJ after our event Friday night and drive Saturday morning. By the time we'd get to his place it'd be 2a.m. We'd have to leave at 5:30a.m. Not much sleep.

Luckily for us we got a hold of another model driving from the city Saturday morning. So I got home Friday night about 11:30p.m., didn't fall a sleep until 1a.m. and was up at 4:15a.m. in order to meet the other model at 5:30a.m. Needless to say, I took a nap in the car. And in the dressing room. And when I got home. But I did make it to the gym! Who's a meathead? This guy.

About the job itself. Extremely easy. So easy I'm donating my paycheck to charity. The charity of the Chase bank account of Mr. John Huetter. My roommate and I were the only male models. The rest were female models in their late 20's, early 30's. So all I did was present gifts to the women in the crowd and, at times, walk the runway for presentations. Total time there: 3 hours.

And where am I going to end my night? Forty Eight! Where we specialize in small plate appetizers, entrees, and desserts. Or stop in for one of our many speciality cocktails. Conveniently located on the Rockafeller campus on 48th Street between 6th and 7th Avenues. Come for the drinks. Stay for the atmosphere. Go home with the server's assisant (that's me).

So far this week I have about 25 hours of sleep underneath my belt. I've slept that much in one day! Yea, think about it. Anways, I hope this little recap clears any confusion up. But really, who reads this and actually cares. On that note, I'm going to relax before work. Probably head to Subway or Chipotle for dinner. I don't know. I don't know if I'll have enough time.

Clowns to the left of me. Jokers to the right.

Day 170

Another long day. And I'm in a hurry. Again. Alot of "a's" to start a sentence. Awesome.

This morning I had a photoshoot in Brooklyn with photographer Michael Rowe. Not the same guy as in Mike Rowe from TLC's Dirty Jobs. He's an old white guy who walks in poop. The photographer was a young black guy from Jamaica. Quite a difference. Anyways, the shoot went well. A lot of beauty and glamour shots. Pictures will be up accordingly.

And in about an hour I have to leave for another promotional event for Eye-5. The event is at H&M. Not to be mistaken with S&M. Sick freaks.

I was hoping to catch up on sleep tonight but that won't happen. Have to be out of my apartment tomorrow by 4:30a.m. to hitch a ride to New Jersey for a call time to an event I booked at 6a.m. Gotta sleep fast tonight.

Time to go eat and shower for tomorrow we die.

Day 169

Five hours of sleep per night is not enough.

Rewind to yesterday. I had a meeting with my agency to discuss a couple things, mainly my career. It went well. Just gonna leave it at that. And afterwards I had an interview with http://www.whatswear.com/. Simple questions like how I got into modeling, what's my favorite thing about the industry, and so on. It should be posted either Saturday or next Saturday.

And to end my night I finally went to Madison Square Garden. The arena itself isn't anything spectacular but the history that surrounds it is amazing. Willis Reed making his famous entrance, the first ever WrestleMania, or Billy Joel's record of 12 consecutive sold out shows. It's a pretty historical place. One comment about the game. The New York Knicks are bad.

As for today I had a meeting with Paul Gregory who is a headshot photographer. What I thought was gonna be a 15 minute conversation turned into a two hour meeting. Didn't really mind though because this guy shared a lot of insight. And I'm like a sponge. I just absorb. So now I have between 4-5 photographers to choose from.

After that I met with an agency who is based out of New Jersey. They do most of their work in the surrounding metropolitan area. So it's just a bus ride or a commuter train away from more job opportunities. And since this industry is a hustle the more people you have working for you the better. More people, more opportunities, more money.

The rest of my day is like this. Relax for an hour or so. Get swollen at the gym. Make money at Forty Eight.

No Fear.

Day 168

Gotta make this quick. In a hurry.

Thanks to all the troops overseas fighting for our freedom. Come home safely.

This morning I had to get up at 5:30a.m. for a promotional job for Eye-5. Two days in a row of getting up before the sun is two days too much for me. Anyways, we helped promote a Cosmo and Maybelline street event. Very simple task... People have lipstick applied by Maybelline. Kiss a post card. Maybelline and Cosmo send it to our troops and donate a dollar for every kiss sent. Cool event and very meaningful.

For the afternoon, I have to be to my agency in a half hour for another meeting with my booker and the owner. The reason for the meeting is that it turns out that I'm not signed with either MSA or Adam. They're not happy that I'm not signed. I'm not happy with the amount of castings. So now we have to find some sort of solution. Hopefully it will all work out.

After the meeting I'm scheduled for an interview for http://www.whatswear.com/. I'm not sure if this is actually going to happen because of the above paragraph. Understandably so, they may not want me to be interviewed if they aren't representing me. Again, hopefully it will all work out.

And to end my night I'm losing my Madison Square Garden virginity! My boss had two extra tickets for the Knicks vs. Hawks game so I hopped on it like flies on road kill. I have to meet my brother at the arena around 6:30ish. I'm gonna be like a little kid in a candy store.

Time to run. Behave. Be safe.

Day 167

I had to wake up at 6:30a.m. I haven't been up that early in months. Usually I roll out of bed around 10ish, make some breakfast and don't really start my day until noon or so. But before you say I'm a bum realize that I got to bed at about 2a.m. So on any given night, I get the same amount of sleep as Mr. Corporate America Guy or Mrs. Kindergarden Teacher Lady.

Anyways, the reason for my early wake up call was because of a catering job for Eye-5. I use the term "catering" very loosely. All I did was walk around with miniature breakfast items. For some reason no one ate anything. Probably because no one wanted to be the "fat person" to grab the first piece of the tray. Oh well. More for me. Cinnamon rolls were amazing.

The event itself was for a Calvin Klein presentation. Tons of other models decked out in CK gear standing on stage. Same thing I did for the Brian Woods thing. Just on a much bigger scale. But it makes me wonder why I never heard about the casting? The best thing about it were the topless girls. Granted they covered themselves but what's better than an adolescent imagination?

That ended around noon. By now I was up for a good six hours. My body wasn't exactly sure how to respond. A nap is in the near future. Anyways, afterwards I went to a go-see to meet photographer Joseph Bleu. Same ol' same ol'. He shot my roommate yesterday and the pictures turned out pretty good. So I may be shooting with him later in the week. Keep you posted.

And as for the rest of the day and night I have to work at Forty Eight. Yes! Actually I don't mind working there at all. The owners and managers are cool. The staff is young. I get to meet people. And once and a while a cougar hits on me. Not to mention it pays pretty decent. Oh and the food is really good. All in all the pros (listed above) outweigh the cons (stuck in elevator).

Everyone have a good rest of the day.

Party peopllllllleeeeee!!!!

Day 166

Loooonnnnnggggg Day.

Here's how it went:
  • Had a meeting with my agency. Took two hours.

  • Missed two go-sees due to the length of the above bullet point.

  • Met headshot photographer Robert Kim. He has a "Before & After" portfolio. I asked him what makes the "after" pictures better than the "before" pictures. He said I was a smart guy and I should figure out myself. All in all, he was a douche.

  • Went all the way uptown to meet another photographer, Jordan Matter. When I say uptown I really mean it. Past Columbia. Past Harlem. 185th street. So high I got a nose bleed. Guy was really cool. Definitely in consideration.

  • Back downtown to meet Barry Morgenstein, another photographer. Nice studio and good pictures. Under consideration.

  • Further downtown to get my haircut from the famous Ali. Can't understand a word he says but gives a great haircut.

Really tired. But that's no excuse. Going to get my gym on.

Kris Kros makes me wanna jump, jump.

Day 165

Lazy. Sunday.

Here's my day up until 5p.m. Woke up around 11:30ish. Went grocery shopping. Finally found a place that makes decent sized subs. Bought two of them. Sat in front of my TV and ate both subs while watching football. Fell asleep. Nothing could make this day more perfect. Unless Jamie Presley showed up at my door.

But the cherry on top was when the service man from our building came to recaulk a hole in our wall. This is where we think Mickey and Minnie have been coming in. So he's been here about seven times and I get the hint that he's aggravated with always having to stop by. Anyways, he bends down to see the hole and two mice come running out. I've never heard a grown man scream before. I laughed for 15 minutes afterwards.

That's it for today. But as for last night it was basically a rollercoaster ride. From 4p.m.-10:30p.m. we had two couples stop in at work. Not very exciting. But then at 10:31p.m. the place got slammed. I thought someone was playing a practical joke on us. "Hey, let's all go to Forty Eight at once. Like all 100 of us so the bartender and servers can't handle it."

The highlight of my night was at the beginning. I had to go to our storage room in the basement. I've done this many times before, some nights as many as five times. Hop in the elevator, hit C3, and ta-da I'm in the basement. So I went once right when I got there. And later around 4:30 to grab pineapple juice and napkins for the bar. NBD (no big deal).

I hop in. Hit C3. Elevator starts moving. Elevator stops. My first thought was, "What just happened?" Second thought was, "No way is this happening?!" Sure enough, I pry open both doors just enough to see I'm stuck in between floors. Problem is I can pry open the first set of doors all the way, but the second set only opens about 3 inches. I'm stuck in an elevator! WTF?!

Now I don't know what to do. At first I sat there for about five minutes contemplating the situation I was in. Like, I thought this shit only happened in movies. So then I thought, "What if I am in a movie?!" Turned out I wasn't. Now I have to get out. I begin to pry open the door again and start yelling for people. It's Saturday evening. No one is around.

I realize I probably just should have hit the alarm button. For about five minutes I hold the button down until someone finally answers me. I'm talking to this guy on the intercom about the situation. He asks me my name. I tell him John. What's my last name? I asked him how will knowing my last name help him get me out of my current situation. No time to be a smart ass John.

In the meantime, it's been a half hour or so, and luckily for me I have AT&T. Which means more bars, in more places, including the elevator at the McGraw Hill Building in Rockafeller Center. I call a couple people and everyone's first reaction was to laugh. So I send a text message out to a couple people. All it said was, "Don't be jealous but I'm stuck in an elevator right now." Top three responses I got:

"Show the camera your balls. That will get you rescued fo sho."

"Hahahahaha! Sorry bro. But I'm high as f*ck."

"Get the f*ck out! God damnit! That's like my dream. Should I call Keanu Reeves from Speed?"

So about 45 minutes later I was rescued. I pried the first door open. Some guy pryed the second door open. And I hopped out. May have yelled "Freedom!!!" a la Mel Gibson in Braveheart. But no love story with a dreamy fireman. Just an annoyed employee who'd rather sit on his chair and watch reruns of Madlock then help someone out of an elevator.

That was my rollercoaster Saturday. Now a couple people are asking for "shout outs" in my blog. I refuse to just give a "shout out" to someone if it has no meaning in the post. I will say this. A friend of mine since I was about 2 stopped in at work. And it's always good to see friends, new ones and old ones. You happy now?

Major item on the agenda this week is to find a headshot photographer. And possibly get a haircut. Debating about shaving though.

To answer Kanye's question of whether I've ever had shoes with no shoestrings. I have. They're called velcro. Thank you.

Day 164

Last night was the first Friday in a while that A) I didn't have to work and B) I didn't drink. So this morning is the first Saturday in a while that A) I'm up before noon and B) I'm not hungover. Not a bad feeling.

My plan for the day is to head over to Hoboken to watch SJFC volleyball play Steven's Institute. And probably straight from there I'll be heading to work. That's the reason for such an early post. Nothing too exciting.

Everyone enjoy their weekend.

Day 163

Thank you Facebook statuses for reminding that today is actually Friday. Because sometime between last Saturday and today, not only did I lose my calender but also my sense of time. I always forget what day comes after Thursday but before Saturday. So this Budweiser is for you, "Mr. Constantly Updating My Facebook Status to Remind Everyone What Day It Is" man.

As for my Friday I had to stop into my agency to take a few polaroids a client requested. I'm up for an editorial in Runner's World Magazine. It shoots next Tuesday in Pennsylvania so I'll be finding out shortly. A couple of the pictures they requested were close-ups of my legs. Good thing my glutes, hamstrings, and calves are my best feature.

And later in the afternoon I had a couple other meetings that I can't post about at the current moment. But feel free to call and I'll explain.

On to a new subject. So I currently have 29 pending friend requests on Facebook. If you happen to be one of them I apologize. Very simple reason I haven't confirmed you - I don't know you. See, I used to confirm everyone as a friend but one too many people freaked me out. For instance, a guy asked me to have sex with his "friend" while he watched. After a few choice words with him he asked my roommate the same question. He didn't know we lived together.

Those are the type of weirdos that ruined it for everyone else. So if you still want to be my friend here's what you need to do. Send me a message letting me know where you came across my page or how you found me. A little introduction of yourself. Maybe your favorite animal. Are you gonna stalk/kill me? Etc. Etc. Ya know, just the basics.

That's that. Last thing before dinner. Three websites that get my through the day.

http://www.peopleofwalmart.com/
http://www.textsfromlastnight.com/
http://www.fmylife.com/

Shower. Dinner. Out with Jay Babinski?

I had a good closing line and I forgot it. Damnit!!!

Day 162

Today isn't very exciting. And I'm really tired. I don't know why. I slept nine hours, woke up around 10, then went back to sleep for another two hours. Maybe I have the H1N1. Or carbon monoxide poisoning.

As for today, I had one go-see to meet photographer Britt Carpenter. It was the same old stuff as other go-sees. Hopefully it will lead to something.

And for later today I'm headed to the gym then to Forty Eight.

Living in New York City while the Yankees win the World Series sucks. Thankfully the New York Knicks probably won't win more than five games this year.

All in all this post was pretty lame. My apologies.

Day 161

Wasn't gonna post today but I remembered the commitment I made to America. Be on time for dinner, post each day, and never wear white after Labor Day.

So here is the post for the 4th day, of the 11th month, of the 2009th year.

Lately, I've been hinting to my boss that I wanna go to a Knicks game considering I've never been to Madison Square Garden and I've lost more about basketball than most people will ever know. So last night he gave me tickets to the Knicks vs. Blazers game in December. As my great grandmother used to say, "It's better to open your mouth then to open your wallet."

Today was actually a really good day. In the morning I had a casting for voiceover work for a Trojan Condom radio commercial. I think it went pretty well. Or at least better than last time. This time I read a couple scripts a few times each. Where as last time the guy basically told me to get out. I felt like Tommy Boy, "Do you validate?"

And throughout the afternoon I had something that I really can't talk about via blog. For now at least. So if you're dying to know feel free to give me a call. 867-5309. Ask for Jenny.

That's it for tonight. Shower time. Bed time. Hammer time.

Nothing more sacred then honor. Nothing more loyal then love.

JH.

Day 160

This must be the slow season in NYC. Or I'm hideous. Because no castings again today. I feel like this is gonna show up on the bottom ticker of ESPN, "John Huetter's castingless day streak hits 4 weeks!" An agency in another market could be of use. Here's a list:

Miami
Two reasons why this city would work. 1) Sisqo and all of his thongs and 2) "Party in the city where the heat is on, all night on the beach 'til the break of dawn, welcome to Miami, bienvenido a Miami." If those lyrics are true then it's a match made in heaven.

Los Angeles
It's the City of Angeles. And my grandmother calls me an angel so why not go where the rest of my people are. Just a thought. And I'm gonna punch Spencer Pratt in his nose. You can thank me later. Only problem is I'm feuding with the Bloods and the Crips. Could be trouble.

Europe
If you refer back to Day 29 I talk about my ideal girlfriend. One of the key points is where she is from. +10 for being foreign. And if I'm not mistaken girls in Europe are foreign. Except France. They're just mean. But give me a Swedish or Amsterdamian girl and I'll be set. Oh yea, and the fact that Europe is the fashion mecca I'm sure I'd be able to get a casting. Maybe two if I'm lucky.

Cape Town, South Africa
Do yourself a favor and google image Cape Town. Beautiful. That's all I know of the place. But imagine having this conversation with your friend...

Friend: So what are you up to?
You: Just packing.
Friend: Where you headed to? Buffalo?
You: Nah, Cape Town.
Friend: You mean Cape Cod?
You: No, Cape Town. Like in South Africa.
Friend: Oh. [with puzzled look on face] That's cool. My girlfriend just cheated on me. My life is just is good.
You: Yea about that, I didn't know you guys were together.
Friend: Huh? What are you talking about?
You: Nothing! I think the phone is breaking up. Peace!

Obviously I'd go to any market where there is work. Christ, I'd go hang out with Castro and smoke some Cubans (cigars and people). Hopefully something will come about in the near future. If not, I hope the Buffalo market is booming.

Lunch time. Work time.

Is it possible for someone on the street corner to have "swagger?" Or do they actually have the right to have this so called swagger? Awesome, you're on the street corner. Get a job maybe?

JH.

Day 159

Back at it. By that I mean I'm sitting on my couch until I have to go to work at 3. Nothing. Nil. Notta. Here's a recap of my weekend:

Friday
I worked at Forty Eight where we hosted a small Halloween party for the NFL. To sum things up, I felt like I was in the middle of a rap video. However, my brother and sister-in-law did surprise me with two dozen cupcakes for my birthday. They were delicious.

Saturday
I didn't get home until 5a.m. from work on Friday. I slept the majority of the day, met a friend out for lunch, and back to work at Forty Eight for our Halloween party. The party was nothing like the night before. The bottle service was set up before the guests arrived so all I had to do was to make sure the juices and sodas were full. Pretty easy.

Only problem we had was that our ice machine couldn't keep up with the amount of ice we needed. So I had to go next door to Del Frisco's to grab ice from them. And if you've ever been there you know it's a classy steak and seafood place with somewhat of a dress code. I was David Hasselhoff from Baywatch. Stuck out like Jesse Jackson at a KKK rally.

Around 2a.m. my manager asked me what I was doing? I was staring at the school girl and naughty maid. He told me to set up bottle service at table 52, punch out, and start drinking. Didn't have to tell me twice. And one by one everyone was cut and the party grew. It turned into a late night. And then the alarm on my phone went off. I was still at the bar. It was set for 7:30a.m.

Sunday
Needless to say, my body hated me all day on Sunday. Didn't move a muscle until about 5 in the evening. And the only reason I did was to go over to my brother's apartment to have dinner. That was it.

Now back to the present time. Still feeling the effects of not sleeping much so I slept in until about 11:30 this morning. Just gonna relax and enjoy the day until I head to work.

Bye-bye.

JH.

Day 158

Hung. Over. Never drinking again.

More to come later. Maybe. Probably not though.

Owww.

But Del Frisco's has one of the hottest staffs ever.

JH.
